Résumé en anglais : The contention that the execution of the effector pattern of an emotion initiates the corresponding subjective activation (feeling), presumably by a feedback mechanism, had been previously proposed (Bloch & Santibañez-H, 1972). In the present study, we report a method for expressing emotions, based on our findings. Actors were trained to perform the respiratory-postural-facial effector patterns of the basic emotions of happiness, sadness, anger, fear, eroticism and tenderness with different degrees of intensity and in different combinations. The learning and systematic repetition of these patterns allowed the actors to bypass the subjective activation which occurs at the beginning. Since the trained patterns correspond to the actual effectors involved during ‘real-life’ emotions, their correct execution is sufficient to convey the corresponding emotional meaning to the observer. A precise technique for ‘stepping out’ of an emotion was developed, which contributes to the subject's psychological balance and may find application in psychotherapy. The entire procedure results in a powerful method for training the expression of emotional behaviours at will in a controlled, graded and organic manner. It turns out to be particularly useful for actors.

Article en version bilangue. Résumé: Au moment où Jerzy Grotowski est nommé à la chaire d’anthropologie théâtrale spécialement créée pour lui au Collège de France, l'article revient sur l’un des aspects de la pensée de ce dernier : la dramaturgie de l’acteur.
S'interroger sur la dramaturgie de l'acteur revient à s'affronter aux difficultés désormais classiques de l'exploration des processus largement inconscients de la création, de l'invention et de la découverte. Il n'est pas étonnant que, dans notre culture, cette question soit largement tributaire de l'évolution des idées, des méthodes et des connaissances disséminées dans les pâtures particulièrement étendues que depuis le XVIe siècle nous désignons par le mot Psychologie. Il n'est pas inutile de le rappeler pour garder en mémoire le fait que cette discipline protéiforme est aussi sensible au travail de la raison qu'à la folle du logis, aux croyances de l'héritage qu'aux données de la découverte scientifique.
La valeur fondamentale du spectacle vivant aujourd'hui, réside peut-être dans le fait qu'il restaure l'organicité du spectateur en lui donnant à percevoir son bios, le flux vital qui le relie aux autres espèces et au cosmos. Faut-il apprendre à faire l'animal pour devenir humain ?

Depuis les Grecs de l'époque classique, l'Occident construit ses théâtres sur des fondations enfouies dans la mémoire collective : une certaine idée du corps et de l'esprit, de l'homme et de la nature, de la raison et de l'imaginaire…. Partant de la consanguinité de la tragédie grecque et de la médecine hippocratique, le livre souhaite rendre compte de l'histoire emmêlée du spectacle vivant et des sciences, jusqu'à l'orée de la rencontre avec l'Asie. Dans la genèse du théâtre, on ne peut que noter le rôle de trois disciplines majeures : la perspective linéaire, l'anatomie et l'astrologie. Situées entre art et science, elles ont institué un ordre sensoriel, intellectuel et affectif qui a marqué l'organisation et la pratique des arts du spectacle en Occident.

L'âme au corps, arts et sciences. 1793-1993 est une exposition qui s’est tenue aux Galeries nationales du Grand Palais du 19 octobre 1993 au 24 janvier 1994. A l'instar des encyclopédies qui constituent des corpus de mentalités, une exposition thématique d'une si grande ambition révèle à l'ethnologue de passage moins un état du savoir qu'un faisceau concordant d'attitudes, de repères conceptuels et de préjugés. A travers l’analyse de planches anatomiques, d’écorchés et autres images de la mise en scène du savoir sur le corps, l’article revient sur le propos de l’accrochage et le prolonge. Critiquant une présentation évolutionniste et dualiste qui ne tient pas suffisamment compte de la complexité historique des échanges et des influences, des dérives et des délires sur les rapports entre corps et esprit notamment, ce papier est la démonstration que le couple art/science est plus virtuel que réel.
